Safeguarding and Child Protection
At Bramcote College, keeping children and young people safe is our top concern. Safeguarding and the welfare of every young person in college is everyone's responsibility.
Every student has the right to live free from fear of abuse and for the adults in their lives, at home, in the community and at our setting, to watch over them, listen to their views and take action if they are concerned. Our safeguarding policy sets out how parents, staff and setting leaders will respond if they are worried about a child.
Our approach to safeguarding is based on:
- Providing a safe environment in which children can learn and develop.
- Ensuring we practice safer recruitment in checking the suitability of staff and volunteers to work with children.
- Developing and then implementing procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases of abuse.
- Supporting pupils who have been abused or harmed in accordance with his/her child protection plan.
- Raising awareness of safeguarding children, child protection processes and equipping children with the skills needed to keep them safe.
- Working in partnership with agencies and safeguarding partners in the ‘best interest of the child’.
And to help us achieve this consistently, we work to clear principles that guide our work and our response to any concerns:
- We always act in the best interests of each student/student and promote their welfare.
- We listen to any communication from students/students, parents or carers and always take concerns seriously.
- We acknowledge there are risks to the students in our care. Without proper care and vigilance abuse or neglect of students could happen at the setting. We talk about these risks with students, staff and parents/carers and together will plan carefully to keep them safe.
- People must act if they are worried about a student and keep acting until they believe the student is safe.
- We are open in our decisions and let parents and local authorities know about concerns.
- We make it easy to raise a concern, and anyone raising concerns will be kept safe.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Faye Parker Dennis.
Faye is an Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for the safeguarding, wellbeing and protection of all students at Bramcote College; ensuring staff are recruited and trained safely, monitoring the progress of any student needing additional care or protection, and being the main contact for any issues related to safeguarding or wellbeing for any of our students in KS3, KS4, and Post-16.

Janine Harrison is the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, and also works closely to support students and families in her role as Engagement Safeguarding and Family Liaison Officer (ESFLO)

Kate Wood is the Designated Lead Teacher for Looked After Children.
Heidi Gale is the Head Teacher and has overall responsibility for the setting, staff and students.
